Gato Bravo

Como pelo post do Paulo tinha ficado sem saber se sempre era um gato bravo ou não, perguntei-lhe.

A resposta, acompanhada de um desenho e citando uma breve discussão internacional, pareceu-me muito pedagógica para quem anda no campo, começando por falar do gato da fotografia que agora segue neste post, antes de falar da que o Paulo publicou no outro dia:

"A character that has not been mentioned is the colour of the underside of the hindfoot: from toes to heel the colour fades from black to brown/grey. In domestic cats the underside of the hindfoot is usually black over its entire length. I do not see any signs of beeing it a bastard with domestic cat. I presume you have seen that both photographs represent the same individual: see notch in right ear.The dead cat however is more of a problem. That results from a lack of pictures from the backside and the upper side of the tail. So next time please take pictures of all sides of the animal, plus details of underside of all feet, upperside of the tail, and the back! My impression is that it is a domestic cat: the tail has more rings than a wildcat USUALLY has, the right hindfoot seems to have a total black underside (left foot seems to be rather light however), and the striping on the sides is too heavy, not 'washed'. But I am not 100% sure. What was the time of year the cat was found? (Important for the thickness of the tail)."
